Anonymous. O: A Presidential Novel
Although we never know whether the hidden author behind the outspoken pseudonym of Anonymous is the same, the routine should come to an end. Not that the subject is not interesting or the circumstances are not actual. But in a very boring way the White House atmosphere of the inner circle of power seems to be abused. With the new novel called O., referring in the most sublime way to have some connections to the current President of the USA, the upcoming election campaign is the topic.
And again, not that the upcoming election campaign might not become one of the most thrilling chapters in the history of the US, the generated compendium of either insinuations or explanations makes it a boring piece. There is no drive where speed will be a main topic, there is no deepness where the struggle of philosophical paradigms will be the rule and there are no characters where extreme individuals will make the game.
Instead of a thrilling narration there is no action. Every routine of the political life between material power and communicative media is reported and explained assuming that the reader just landed with an UFO on the platform of normal, well known and profane political life. Who gets thrilled by that has never read a newspaper, never followed a political campaign on TV and never known one single politician. The stereotypes of this biosphere are so broad that there is definitely no need for explanation.
Of course there is a female reporter and a male campaign manager, both fond of each other but dramatically split by the events. Of course there is a young partisan from the early days of the President who got deeply disappointed. And of course there are politicians, especially the both candidates, playing with human feelings, calculating on resentments and poking reflexes. No prejudice concerning politicians is left behind and not one plot of bad political behaviour is ignored.
One can only deeply recommend going back to a more inspiring reality. Politics is more than a game from bad guys played to betray the good ones. The so called and in some kind of views always mistreated people have a lot of potential to be part of the game. The thrill of politics results of the mutual stakes politicians and people have in the game. Who will win depends on the shape of both. The upcoming campaign for the re-election of Obama and/or his competitor will be a masterpiece compared to this novel, written by an Anonymous, whoever it is.
